CITY OF INDUSTRY, Calif. – July 27, 2004 – Global ePoint, Inc. (Nasdaq: GEPT), today announced its AirWorks division has received FAA and European JAA (Joint Aviation Authorities) certification for Fire Detection and Fire Suppression kits and will immediately begin delivering kits to Air One airlines of Italy. The initial $257,400 order was placed through Autronics and is for 19 aircraft to be followed with a reorder for six additional aircraft.
The requirement for Fire Detection and Fire Suppression is part of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) revision to standards for Cargo or Baggage compartments in Transport Category Airplanes. Section 121.314 required that after March 19, 2001 all class D compartments, regardless of volume, must meet the standards (of section 25.857 and 25.858) for a Class C compartment unless the operation is an all cargo operation and by December 31, 2002 all US carriers were required to meet this standard.
Though the US has completed these modifications, the remainder of the world is now following these compliance standards, which applies to Boeing 737, 757 and 767s. Since the JAA has traditionally followed the compliance requirement of the FAA, it is anticipated that other regulators would also follow this requirement.
Air One airlines, headquartered in Rome, Italy was founded in 1983 as Aliadriatica and adopted its current name in 1995. Air One's entire fleet is comprised of Boeing 737s, the most widely operated jet in the world today.
AirWorks division President, Ricky Frick notes, "As a result of late entry into the US market, full concentration was given to the Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA) Requirement of Europe and to outfitting aircraft operated under the compliance of the JAA.”
"While the United States has completed these modifications," Frick observes, "the remainder of the world is now following compliance standards. This is the initial order for AirWorks' Fire and Detection Suppression systems under European JAA certification, demonstrating our ability to develop products which address our customer's specific needs. We have begun our marketing efforts, in connection with Autronics, to potential customers in several countries and believe this contract will help pave the way for additional business."
Global ePoint Chief Executive, Toresa Lou adds, "The new STC for Fire Detection and Fire Suppression will help win more new customers worldwide, such as Air One. With this success in the European market, we anticipate China is in the process of mandate. It once again demonstrates AirWorks ability to identify and answer specific customer needs by utilizing joint technologies to successfully open new vertical markets."
