City of Industry, Calif. – June 9, 2004 – Global ePoint, Inc. (Nasdaq: GEPT) today announced its AirWorks division has received orders for additional state-of-the-art Cockpit Door Surveillance Systems to be installed in Lufthansa Airlines brand new fleet of ultra long-range Airbus A340-600 aircraft.
The AirWorks Cockpit Door Surveillance System (CDSS) allows pilots and crew members to view and assess an entire aircraft without leaving the secure cockpit environment. It provides full view of not just the area outside of the cockpit door, but the entire aircraft with touch-control LCD screens and up to 16 overt and covert cameras. And with constant and continual surveillance, the pilot and crew can quickly detect, assess and manage in-flight security, whether smoke in the cargo hold or an attendant’s call from the passenger cabin. Airwoks CDSS can also be upgraded to create an “electronic flight bag” that eliminates pilots having to carry operational manuals.
AirWorks President and CEO, Ricky Frick, states: “We’re proud that Lufthansa was our kick-off customer for the AirWorks CDSS. To date, we have installed over 600 CDSS systems for several Airlines, and the on-going satisfaction and continuing flow of orders for our CDSS is extremely encouraging. Airworks has full approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for supplemental type certificates (STC) for all models of Airbus-built aircraft and the majority of Boeing-built aircraft and regional jets. AirWorks’ CDSS also exceeds full performance and compliance requirements of all countries. At present, seven countries have mandated on-board surveillance for aircraft flying within their borders, and more are expected to follow suit.”
Through vertical integration, AirWorks and other Global ePoint divisions and companies combine next generation computing, digital video recording, wireless networks and down linking of data and images for today’s “paperless cockpit” – such as recording in-flight data that is also “time and date stamp” capable, providing airlines with a documented record in cases where legal and/or Homeland Defense issues arise.
Global ePoint Chief Executive Toresa Lou adds, "AirWorks aviation business continues to support Global ePoint’s growth strategy converging secured network digital video technology with innovative application to implement dynamic end-to-end solutions for a broad range of vertical markets.”
